A few weeks ago i entered a nice competition run by the great people at snowboardermag.com.au, all it involved, was sending in a design for some snow gear (jacket and pants), to be in the running. In return, the winner gets (or got, as the competition is now over) a set of outerwear from Billabong from their new signature series. So have you guessed who the lucky winner was…? :D

On wednesday my prize arrived, a brown Clint Allan signature jacket and pants,  and they are awesome, feel great, have about 6 billion pockets, and go with my new boots (birthday present from my better half)

this afternoon, i spent some time between classes working on my web apps assignment, by the end i had my writing functions, some basic layout, xml and asp files ready and working. I planned to wait until i came home tonight to get the reading and tweet printing functions working, then work ont he logins.

When i got home tonight, i found that my page would no longer write to my xml file, and in fact seemingly took no action whatsoever when my button was pressed. I spent hours trying to remedy this problem, but in the end decided to start anew, using the example given to us in class, and adapting it. At first even the example did not behave as it should, but when it finally did, i saved a copy as backup, to return to in case the same problem occurred.

Sure enough, at around 11:30pm some additions i had made to one of my copies seemed to have stopped it from working, so, i removed them, but still nothing. Next i returned to my backup, and opened it in my browser… WTF! Nothing, no errors, but also no script, nothing new in the xml, no changes to the text areas, no alerts. So once again I’m stuck with a seemingly static webpage, and no idea as to how to make it work, or even why these intermittent problems are occuring.

Twitter

Twitter is an online service, which revolves around the question “what are you doing?”. Users may post short topics (known as tweets), under 140 characters in length usually with such messages as “leaving work” or “eating a pie” etc, although many are more interesting than that.

Using the twitter service, users can also “follow” other Twitterers to keep updated with their recent activities.

In short, it behaves partly like a scaled down blog and rss reader.

in addition, because of the small size of the tweets, it is possible to recieve sms updates through your mobile phone to follow your friends.

I Wiied and the streets are flooding

It’s raining… still. Not that I mind, i actually like a bit of torrential rain every now and then. The last time the Gold Coast got absolutely pounded by rain, a few years back, i missed it, instead i was in sunny Fiji. After which i returned only to be told about streets flooding, and to find that a neighbour’s driveway crumbled to pieces like a giant pothole.
But, in other news, I spent a lot of time this weekend playing on my girlfriend’s new Wii (no, not wee, “Wii”, the Nintendo one). Mario Party… wait for it… 8 is a lot of fun, and i personally enjoy Wii sports golf.

Putting on the green

As much as i enjoy it, i managed to turn my scorecard from -2 par to +6 on the final hole of my last game.

My Weekend

Its not the most inspiring blog title, but its probably very accurate.

I haven’t written since last week, so i figured i should update you all on a few things i’v been doing.

I went shopping for a friend’s birthday, which was on monday. She’s been in Dubai for around half a year, but is coming back at the end of the week. Hopefully the present’s not too much of a letdown, or ill know… believe me :(

Also, in one of my favourite past-times, WoW, i finally got my epic tanking sword, which i’v awaited for months of Heroic Mechanar Runs (1-3 hours long each).

Thirdly, my girlfriend and I went in search of a costume for her dress-up party, she’s going as an angel, and i must say she looks stunning in the dress i picked out for her :P . I plan on going as a fireman-stripper, so fingers crossed that works out).

That should about do it for now, so until I write again,

Speed Bump of Death

On my way into uni this morning i was walking through the carpark, and a ford went past me. As it went over the speedbump (a small one, not one of those monstrous behemoths of vehicle velocity regulation), the bottom of it scraped across the top of the bump, making a squealing, grating noise. Next, as the rear wheels came down from the bump, the boot (whether open, or just loose) clunked open and closed. Lastly, in a perfect way to top it all off the right rear hubcap disconnected itself from the wheel, and rolled off in another direction.

I, along with the other onlookers, was amused to say the least.

IBM’s Bluefire

I’v just finished reading an article about a new supercomputer that America’s National Centre for Atmospheric Research has had produced by IBM. The entire system contains 4064 IBM processors running at 4.76 GHz and has nearly 12 TB of RAM. The Bluefire is special in the world of super computers for the fact that it is water-cooled by a number of reservoirs totaling 5700 litres, whereas most, if not all in the past have been air-cooled. This puts it’s power at around 76 TeraFLOPS, and had it been listed in the 2007 top 500 super computers list, it would come in at 17th place.

But what made me feel as though the article warranted a mention was the fact that the sole comment on the post was “BUT DOES IT RUN CRYSIS?”

…well i found it funny

Genesis

And in the third hour, I said,

“let there be a blog”, and there was a blog.

Yes, after 3 hours, of on-and-off messing around, mainly within a cultural and ethical values lecture (which might as well just be called philosophy), i’m writing my first post.

I didnt’ spend three hours flailing around trying to work out how to use wordpress, i actually spent them frantically googling “super mario screenshot” in google images. Coming to realise that nothing of interest had caught my eye over a long period, i was forced to make my own header image, by sewing together whatever pieces of classic gaming imagery i could find. The result, as you can see, was quite satisfying.

As for the name of the blog, that was another few hours of brainstorming down the drain. After much time had passed, i thought i had found the most brilliant, and obscurely humorous video-game inspired blog title possible.  Clearly, so did AJ, who currently writes at http://allurblogs.blogspot.com/ under the title of “All your blogs are belong to us”, after a japanese written “engrish” line in the sega title “Zero Wing” from way back when. So with my genius title already tied up, i settled for the current “N00Blog”, which genuinely portrays my position in regards to blogging.

I do however read a few blogs, such as The care and feeding of warriors (yes it is game related, World of Warcraft to be exact) every now and then, and my mother goes on about them to no end. Or at least she did until “twitters” became the latest thing. “rss” this, and “css” that, not to mention our home pc quickly filling up with programs such as feedemon.

i suppose that will have to suffice for now, until i discover some new goodie or feel the need to type away for the interest of others
